AMP Energy Juice (Mixed Berry)

I love to sample great drinks on Friday and today was no exception!

AMP comes in a 12 oz plastic bottle with a resealable top and a plastic label sleeve. Lets crack this Mixed Berry version open and see what it’s made of… I noticed a regular juice aroma that was pleasing, you would not think this was an energy drink just by the smell. When you pour this into a glass it has a cloudy opaque color and you can see little bits of juice pulp in there (since it’s 100% juice)  First sip and you taste a very pleasing smooth juice beverage, there is no “energy” flavor to it and if it was server without the bottle I doubt anyone could tell!

I am huge Rockstar Guava fan for early mornings but I think I have just found a replacement for that fix!  AMP is great tasting and I got a nice little afternoon pickup and been still feeling good for the past 2 hours!

Made with 100% juice and no added sugar, AMP Energy Juice combines a stimulating blend of B (6 + 12) and C vitamins, taurine, ginseng, guarana and caffeine for those looking for an energy drink with all the added benefits of 100% juice!

AMP Juice was just released in Feb 2010, so look for it at your local store soon!  AMP Juice also comes in an Orange flavor.

EDG Recommended if you like juice drinks!

Penthouse Clear – Lemon Lime

Penthouse Clear is the “Penthouse” name you normally think of….  the sexy devil cat girl on the label will remind you of that also!  The can design is nothing crazy but devil cat girls are “Clearly Stimulating” according to the can!  :)  The manufacturer of Penthouse clear takes this product seriously and you can check out the process here.

Once we crack this baby open we find:

-Clear color with a faint gold hue to it

-Slight mild aroma similar to a Vernors

-Very sweet taste that taste slightly like perfume. (maybe the devil girl?)

-Distinct aftertaste and that film on the roof of your mouth but disappears rapidly

-Didn’t seem very carbonated but the belch factor was high.

-Includes the usual suspects: Caffeine, taurine, inositol and B vitamins

– Never seen Xian Cao on an ingredient list before (Siegesbeckia Plant, used in Chinese medicine)

Overall the marketing on this can rocks!  Who can just walk past this drink and not be curious whats on the inside?  The taste of this drink just wasn’t my style but there is a nice little energy boost in it for ya!

Hydrive Energy Triple Berry

Today we have a Hydrive Triple Berry quick look review!

  • crystal clear red color
  • non-carbonated, enhanced water energy drink
  • first sip strong and tart but smooths out
  • tasty berry flavor
  • minimal aftertaste
  • caffeine, taurine, ginkgo + acai
  • 30 calories
  • great afternoon pick me up while at work

Conclusion: I was impressed with this low calorie offering, the flavor is good and I didn’t notice that nasty or strange aftertaste you get with certain artificial sweeteners.  I would drink this again and recommend to my friends who want something lighter than a Redbull / Monster.

Hydrive Energy chews

hydrive chew

Today we had the chance to sample some Orange Burst Hydrive Energy chews!

There are 4 chews in a pack and 40mg of caffeine per chew, calcium and plenty of Vitamin C, B3, B5, B6 and B12!

When you unwrap one of these you see a substance similar to a Starburst and notice a orangy aroma similar to baby aspirin.

Pop one of these in your mouth and it has tart flavor and a orange flavor with a hint of vanilla…. or maybe a concentrated Tang flavor with a slightly gritty texture.  The orange flavor has a long aftertaste which isn’t a bad thing, especially when your at your desk staring at a computer.  These have a good taste and I think you could non energy drink fans to eat these, they have no energy drink taste.  You will get a little energy boost and the more you eat the greater the boost.  Do not consume more than 8 chews in a 24 hr period!

You can purchase these online at www.hydriveenergy.com Get 20% off when you mention code: HYD20

I have some other Hydrive drinks to review so stay tuned for those!

Arizona Green Tea – Energy Drink

Arizona Energy green teaToday we busted open an Arizona Green Tea Energy out of the fridge.

*Very faint aroma upon opening, maybe fruit/tea

*Mild carbonation

*Cloudy carmel tan color (no very pleasing)

*This drink lacks quite a bit in the flavor department… has “tea” taste but not enjoyable. (4/5 on the sampling panel did not care for it)

*Once you swallow this drink, there is a very bitter aftertaste

* Purchased for $.60 @ Big Lots

*There really isn’t much to discuss on this drink

*I don’t recommmend this to anyone unless you get it for free

Red Bull Cola

Red Bull Cola is starting to show up in various markets across the US and I was able to score myself 2 cans to sample!!  $1.29 for the 250mL can and $1.69 for 12 oz can.

Let crack open the red pull tab (click the tab image for a full size image) that has the cut out bull logo in it and see what this stuff smells like….. FLAT SODA, yup smells just like an open can of cola that sat in the fridge for a few days.

Red Bull Cola has the color of murky iced tea and it’s very foamy when poured into a glass (similar to Pepsi but not that foamy).  The funny part about the foamy appearance is that onec you take a sip there is not much carbonation on your tongue….

I also want to add that RB Cola would make a great holiday beverage since it has a slightly “spicy” flavor to it… (cinnamon, cloves, ect…)  I myself do not like cinnimon or clove tasting items so this drink doesn’t really appeal to me, but I would drink a FREE can if got one!

Red Bull Cola is all natural ingredients and starts off with water, sugar and carbon dioxide!!!  No HSFC here!  Every ingredient on the list you can read and know what it is.

• no phosphoric acid
• no preservatives
• no artificial flavors.

I was expecting a sweeter taste but was greeted with a slightly tart or bitter taste.

As for the energy kick, I would say its less than a standard red bull.

Made in Switzerland!

Jetset Energy Trio

This week we did some sampling of of the Jetset Energy mixer trio.

Jetset Ginger Ale: Jack Daniels was the selected spirit to compliment this fine mixer. Before mixing with the Jack a quick sip revealed a crisp taste with no aftertaste or film on the tongue.

Jetset Tonic: Tanqueray gin was used to sample this tonic and this was a great combo.

Jetset Club Soda: I am not a club soda drinker so i can’t tell what is good or bad but it mixed well with some cranberry juice I had!

It was hard to judge the true potential of these drinks since we mixed in some booze. 🙂

We have a new twist on the club scene for energy drinks…. move over Red Bull and vodka!

CRUNK!!!

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!! We are gonna sample some CRUNK!!! today. Whaaaaaaaat??

Lets crack open this 250mL can and see what we get…. first we see a murky / cloudy cranberry color that provides a decent aroma. Once you take a sip you will notice that CRUNK taste better than it smells. (that’s a good thing compared to some of the other drinks that fool ya with a great aroma) We found minimal carbonation, minimal aftertaste and a definitely unique flavor that separates CRUNK from the other “baby aspirin” energy drinks out there. The pomegranate juice may be the source for interesting flavor that arouses your taste buds. (I didn’t see a specific juice % content on the can)

CRUNK is loaded with the standard goods and all kinds of additional goodies: horny goat weed, ashwaganda, grape seed extract, milk thistle, ginko biloba, skull cap, white willow bark, damiana and black carrot extract (for color).

CRUNK is unique drink and is worth a shot if you haven’t tried it yet.

CRUNK!!! Energy Drink was co-created and launched in 2004 by the late beverage industry legend Sidney Frank, creator of Grey Goose vodka and founder of Sidney Frank Importing Company (importer of Jägermeister), along with Lil’ Jon, the Grammy award winning artist and producer who is still onboard with CRUNK!!! as Chief Brand Advisor.

Jetset Energy Original

Let’s jet into the weekend with Jetset Energy Original review!

Jetset has a fun looking can with the Austin Powers swirl effect in the background, the DJ working a pair of turntables on the backside of the can and all the world clocks at the top of the can. I did notice the can was slightly large than a Redbull at 10.5oz (310mL) so you score an extra swig or two with Jetset!

Lets crack this can open and start this review………. Jetset offers a very similar aroma to the ‘bull and has a strong orange/gold color that draws your attention. The color, aroma and taste also remind me of a drink called “Dark Scorpion” and that was a tasty drink also. Jetset has very fine micro bubbles that assault your tongue, I am not a fan of heavy carbonation but I enjoyed the micro bubbles! I also noticed some there is a metallic aftertaste if you take a small sip but if you take a big swig you don’t notice it that much. There is a slight aftertaste/cottonmouth but nothing more than a light residue film that disappears after 60 secs.

Jetset has a slightly tart flavor, it’s milder than Monster but similar to Red Bull.  Edit 8/7/08  I just had another Jetset and I noticed more cottonmouth and aftertaste than I had originally posted.

Jetset offers the usually suspects:HFCS, 1000mg taurine, 50mg inositol, 25mg ginseng, 120mg caffeine, 25mg guarana and B vitamins.

If you are out and about, grab a Jetset and let me know what you think.

Monster Energy Monorail

Monster Energy is up for advertising on just about anything these days! I was just in Vegas for a convention and the monorail looks pretty cool! When you are inside they have a video playing with various Monster sponsored athletes (BMX, Moto-X ect….)

They also have a Monster vending machine that sells the 16oz cans for $2. Now that’s one of the best deals in Vegas. NYNY hotel was selling 8oz cans of Redbull for $4.25

I was hoping to find some new drinks out there but nothing new or interesting…… 🙁
